WOW WOW WOW!!

What another great week here at Soltys! We went over drills, where we had a 3-minute Fire Drill, great timing with our population!! We had the Garden club come out and lead a craft, Ms. Barbara came to play the piano and sing country songs with us. We took a road trip all the way to Paris where we enjoyed learning facts, watching videos, coloring the flag, and of course we indulged in Onion Soup, French Bread, and Non-Alcoholic Wine. Chair yoga, laps around the inside of the building and out, kept us moving where guessing games, introducing ourselves, and cards kept our minds flourishing. We had visitors come in for our open house today where the raffle winner was our own Bettie L. The video of the pulling of names will be uploaded shortly.

Stayed tuned for next week’s adventures, a certain someone or should I say something, will hop in to see us. :) As always thank you for choosing us, have a great weekend !

WARM WEATHER, WARM HEARTS, COOOOOLLLLLLLDDDDDD BEVERAGES!!

Hello everyone! I sure hope you are enjoying this beautiful day! This week at Soltys we have had a great deal of fun with one of our favorite games noodle ball, Bowling, Bingo, Library corner, Music lyric game, and an outstanding piano sing-along performance by our new friend Barbabra. We had very deep discussions in our participant council meeting where several participant’s felt the courage to speak up on behalf of each other, with the biggest discussion of course centered around snack (ha-ha). We enjoyed Spa Time, had crafts, learned about a couple of national days, and overall enjoyed each other’s time and company.

Tomorow is a big day for us here as we are having our ST Patrick’s Day party where we will eat green eggs and ham for our AM snack and spinach dip for our PM. As fun as that will be we also have other things to celebrate. Our one of kind team addition Ms. Nizhoni Rowley!! As sent out in email I expressed our sadness for Ms. Nini leaving us as a full-time staff member :( but we are also excited to see what her future holds as we know it will be as bright as her smile, she often greets everyone with. We will shower her with kind words, well wishes, and speak of the many great memories and moments we have shared with her. In honor of Nini staff has decided to wear a shade of purple, as it’s her favorite color. Wearing green is also welcomed to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! So send your loved ones in, in style!

As always, we appreciate all of our family and community members, as well as all who come to our page/ corner out of curiosity. As the warm weather begins planting (get it), itself we are looking for volunteers to help maintain our garden, serve in the building with participants, bring in pets, musical performances and more!! Please feel free to contact me through email @ angell@solytysplace.org or by phone @ 919-245-2017.

Thank you all, your Operations Manager of Soltys Place :)

NATIONAL MUSIC THERAPY DAY......

wow wow wow!!

What a great fun filled, creative, testimony of a day!! We had the privilege of several performances from our own participants Willie VanHook, Ann Betts, Ed Doughtry, Ida Evans Lawson, James Quillen, Gerri Lunsford, the Silver Fleas, and the honorable Mr. Jo Wallace (97) leader of the Sensational Nightingales with a wonderful segment from his good friend Mr. Mack Curtis Fennell who also traveled and sang with the group. There was an abundance of laughter, clapping, singing along, dancing and fellowship. Music is often linked to the calming of the soul, and I’d say everyone present today discovered just how much therapy music can give!

This week at Soltys Place we had lots of fun from doing Zumba, learning about heart health, music with manicures, scrapbooking and more!

We look forward to a wonderful month, where we offer our daily operations, support group, a respite Saturday and our 20th year anniversary open house!! Please look over our website to stayed updated on all the great things to come and always thank you for your support and for choosing us :)

First Blog :)

Good afternoon,

What are we doing here at Soltys? Why I’m glad you asked! Last week we spent a lot of time getting to know each other better. Participants brought in photos of themselves and friends which to staff was a treat. We watched The Patch Adams movie (a must see). We hunkered down and talked about a more serious topic, The Facts of Life where I learned a lot through the advice participants had to share. Self-accountability was a big one!

This week we are honoring those we know and love who has/had a form of cancer, continuing our month-long celebration for Black History Month, eating food and learning facts about San Diego, and returning to our youth for nursery rhymes sing-a- longs. We here at Soltys Place are looking forward to great adventures, lessons, laughs, and time well spent all year long :)

Thank you all for choosing us!!
